Ruth Lichterman

Ruth Teitelbaum (* 1924; † 1986 in Dallas; eigentlich Ruth Lichterman nach Heirat) war eine der US-amerikanischen Programmiererinnen des ENIAC-Computer.

Am Hunter College erlangte sie ihren Abschluss als B.Sc. in Mathematik. Sie wurde von der Moore School of Engineering eingestellt, um ballistische Flugbahnen zu berechnen und wurde später als eine der ersten Programmiererinnen für den ENIAC-Computer ausgewählt, welcher entwickelt wurde, um genau diese Berechnungen anzustellen.

Ruth Teitelbaum reiste mit ENIAC zum ballistischen Forschungslabor bei den Aberdeen Proving Grounds, wo sie für mehr als zwei Jahre blieb, um die nächste Gruppe der ENIAC-Programmierer anzulernen.

1948 heiratete sie einen ENIAC-Ingenieur und nahm den Namen Lichterman an. Sie starb 1986 in Dallas.

Ruth Teitelbaum bildete mit Marlyn Meltzer ein Spezial-Team innerhalb der ENIAC-Programmiererinnen. Als "Computer" für die Army berechneten sie Gleichungen ballistischer Flugbahnen sorgfältig mit Hilfe eines Tischrechners - einer zu dieser Zeit üblichen, analogen Technologie.
