Sally Priesand

Sally Jane Priesand (* 27. Juni 1946 in Cleveland, Ohio) ist die erste in den USA ordinierte Rabbinerin.

Sie wurde am 3. Juni 1972 am Hebrew Union College in Cincinnati ordiniert. Bei ihrer Aufnahme hatte man dort noch Unsicherheit bezüglich der Berufsaussichten einer Rabbinerin ausgedrückt.[1]

Sally Priesand arbeitete zunächst an der Stephen Wise Free Synagogue in New York City, danach am Beth El-Tempel in Elizabeth (New Jersey). Von 1981 bis 2006 war sie Rabbinerin am Monmouth Reform Temple in Tinton Falls, New Jersey.

Nach einer Brust- und Schilddrüsenkrebserkrankung zog sie sich im Juni 2006 in den Ruhestand zurück.

Paula Ackerman, die schon vor Sally Priesand in den USA als Rabbinerin wirkte, war nicht formell ordiniert.

Die erste ordentlich ordinierte Rabbinerin weltweit war Regina Jonas, die 1935 von Rabbiner Dienemann in Offenbach formell ordiniert wurde.
