Scottish First Division

Die Scottish First Division ist die zweithöchste Fußballliga in Schottland und die höchste der Scottish Football League. In der Liga spielen 10 Mannschaften,von denen jede Saison die erstplatzierte Mannschaft in die Scottish Premier League aufsteigen darf, wenn spezielle Stadionkriterien eingehalten werden. Die letztplatzierte Mannschaft steigt ab, während der Vorletzte nach der Saison in Play-offs um den Ligaverbleib gegen Mannschaften aus der Second Division spielt, die nach Saisonabschluss die Plätze 2 bis 4 belegt. Die Clubs spielen je vier Mal gegeneinander. Für einen Sieg gibt es drei Punkte und ein Unterschieden einen Punkt.

Die drei Ligamitglieder FC Clyde, Hamilton Academical und FC Livingston streben eine Restruktierung des Ligasystems an, die die Mannschaften der First Division in eine zweite Liga Scottish Premier League (SPL) ausgliedern würde. Die Pläne sind in einem frühen Stadium und stoßen auf Gegenwehr bei den niederklassigen Vereinen und Vertretern der Scottish Football League.
