Silly season

Silly season (zu dt. Sauregurkenzeit) bezeichnet im Sport den Zeitraum in dem aus Mangel an Neuigkeiten durch fehlende Ergebnisse Spekulationen um mögliche Mannschaftswechsel oder andere personelle Veränderungen aufkommen. Der Begriff findet hauptsächlich in nordamerikanischen Sportarten wie Football, NASCAR, Baseball oder Basketball Verwendung. Hier handelt es sich jedoch nicht ausschließlich um Spekulationen, sondern häufig sogar um Tatsachen, also offiziell bestätigte Veränderungen. Im Gegensatz zu Sportarten, die über die Wintersaison gespielt werden, wie Fußball oder Eishockey, bezeichnet man beispielsweise bei Motorsportarten somit das "Winterloch", da hier der Wettbewerb meist im Sommer läuft.
