State Bank of India (SBI) ist die größte Bank in Indien. SBI ist auch gemessen an der Anzahl der Geschäftsbüros und der Beschäftigten die größte Bank der Welt. SBI ist im Aktienindex BSE Sensex gelistet.
SBI wurde 1806 unter dem Namen Bank of Bengal errichtet. Die Bank wurde 1955 nationalisiert mit der Reserve Bank of India, die einen Anteil von 60 Prozent erhielt.
Assoziierte Banken
Es gibt neben der SBI sechs weitere assoziierte Banken, die zur SBI gehören. Sie alle nutzen "State Bank of" in ihrem Firmennamen und fügen diesem den regionalen Firmensitz im Firmennamen bei. Diese sieben assoziierten Banken gehörten ursprünglich zu indischen Fürstenstaaten und wurden 1959 nationalisiert. All diese sieben Banken nutzen das gleiche Firmenlogo eines blauen Schlüssellochs.
