Zwischen den Stühlen bzw. Stuck in the Middle (engl. für „Gefangen in der Mitte“) ist ein Begriff aus der Betriebswirtschaftslehre und bezeichnet den verlustbringenden Bereich, wenn nicht eine eindeutige Wettbewerbsstrategie verfolgt wird.

Bildlich dargestellt wird dieses Phänomen mittels einer U-förmigen Kurve (auch Porterkurve genannt) mit den Achsen Rentabilität und Marktanteil. Gemäß dieser Hypothese von Michael E. Porter mündet nach der Unvereinbarkeitshypothese das nicht eindeutige Verfolgen einer generischen Wettbewerbsstrategie in einem Zustand, in dem sich die Wahrscheinlichkeit, einen suboptimalen Return on Investment zu erzielen, erhöht.

Diese These konnte bisher jedoch noch nicht belegt werden.
