Das Synchrotron-light for Experimental Science and Applications in the Middle East (SESAME) ist das erste Synchrotron im Nahen Osten und befindet sich in Allaan in Jordanien.
Das SESAME-Projekt wurde Ende der 1990er initiiert, als feststand, dass der deutsche Speicherring BESSY I 1999 ausgemustert werden sollte. Unter der Schirmherrschaft der UNESCO fanden sich mehrere Länder aus der Region Naher Osten und Mittelmeer zusammen, um den Speicherring nach einer technischen Aufrüstung (2,5 GeV Energie, 133 m Durchmesser) weiter zu betreiben. 2000 entschied man sich für Jordanien als Standort, 2002 wurde BESSY I dorthin verschifft. Das Gebäude ist mittlerweile fertiggestellt, der erste Betrieb ist für 2009 mit zunächst sechs Strahlrohren vorgesehen; deren Anzahl soll auf zwanzig bis zum Jahr 2013 steigen.
