Die Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) ist eine unabhängige Regierungsorganisation in den USA, die am 18. Mai 1933 in der Regierungszeit des Präsidenten Franklin D. Roosevelt im Rahmen seines New Deal-Programms gegründet wurde. Die Vorstellung war, so Roosevelt „a corporation clothed with the power of a government but possessed of the flexibility and initiative of private enterprise.“[1]
Die Hauptaufgabe der TVA ist die Verwaltung von Wasserkraft- und Flussregulierungsanlagen am Tennessee-Fluss, daneben betreibt sie als größter Energieerzeuger der USA heute zahlreiche Kohle- und Kernkraftwerke. Zu den Wasserkraftwerken gehört unter anderem auch das Raccoon-Mountain-Pumpspeicherwerk. Sitz der Behörde ist Knoxville im Bundesstaat Tennessee.
