Das College of William & Mary (auch William & Mary oder W&M genannt) ist eine staatliche Universität in Williamsburg im Osten des US-Bundesstaates Virginia. Gegründet 1693, ist sie nach der Harvard University die zweitälteste Universität der Vereinigten Staaten. Sie gehört zu den besten staatlichen Universitäten des Landes, eine sogenannte Public Ivy. Heute sind hier 7650 Studierende eingeschrieben. Mit ihren extrem hohen Zulassungsanforderungen gelten die Absolventen des College of William & Mary zu den begehrtesten in Forschung und Wirtschaft in den USA. In den vergangenen Jahren wird das College of William & Mary immer wieder vom U.S. News and World Report.[31] zur besten kleinen staatlichen Universität der USA gewählt. Im letzten Ranking der U.S. News wurde die Qualität der Lehre für das Bachelor-Programm auf den ersten Platz bei den staatlichen Universitäten und auf Platz drei im nationalen Vergleich, hinter der Brown University und Dartmouth College, gewählt.
Geschichte
Das College of William and Mary wurde 1693 zu Ehren von Wilhelm III. und Maria II. gegründet und war damit einer der Colonial Colleges. Das Hauptgebäude wurde von Sir Christopher Wren entworfen.
Sport
Das Sportteam des College wird The Tribe genannt. Sie ist Mitglied der Colonial Athletic Association.
