The Hindu ist die zweitgrößte englischsprachige Tageszeitung Indiens. Sie erscheint mit einer Auflage von etwa einer Million verkauften Exemplaren in Chennai und wird in ganz Indien vertrieben. Der Druck der Zeitung ist auf die Standorte Bangalore, Coimbatore, Hyderabad, Kochi, Madurai, Mangalore, Neu-Delhi, Thiruvananthapuram, Vijayawada und Vishakhapatnam verteilt.

The Hindu wurde 1878 gegründet und erschien anfangs in einer Auflage von 80 Exemplaren als Wochenzeitung.

Seit 1995 gibt es eine Online-Ausgabe der Zeitung.
