Tom Foley
Thomas Stephen „Tom“ Foley (* 26. März 1929 in Spokane, Washington) ist ein US-amerikanischer Politiker der Demokratischen Partei. Er war vom 3. Januar 1965 bis zum 3. Januar 1995 Abgeordneter im Repräsentantenhaus der Vereinigten Staaten für den Bundesstaat Washington. Dort stieg er auf und war vom 6. Juni 1989 bis zum 3. Januar 1995 Sprecher des Repräsentantenhauses der Vereinigten Staaten. Allerdings verpasste er 1994 die Wiederwahl in den Kongress, womit er der erste nicht wiedergewählte Sprecher des Kongresses seit 1860 wurde.
1998 wurde er unter Bill Clinton zum Botschafter der Vereinigten Staaten in Japan und blieb dies unter George W. Bush bis April 2001.
