Tom Yam (Thai: ต้มยำ) ist eine heiße sauer-scharfe Suppe der thailändischen Küche.

Sie besteht aus Brühe und wird mit Fischsoße, Schalotten, grob geschnittenem Zitronengras, Kaffernlimetten-Blättern, Thai-Ingwer, Tamarinde für die Säure und zerstoßenen Chilis gewürzt. Anschließend wird sie mit Korianderblättern garniert.

Es gibt mehrere Zubereitungsarten.

  • Wenn Riesengarnelen und Pilze enthalten sind, heißt das Gericht Tom Yam Gung bzw. Tom Yam Kung (ต้มยำกุ้ง – die thailändische „Nationalsuppe“).
  • Weitere Varianten sind Tom Yam Gai (mit Huhn), Tom Yam Pla (mit Fisch) und Tom Yam Talee (mit Meeresfrüchten).
  • Eine moderne Variation ist beispielsweise die Zugabe von Kokosnussmilch (Tom Yam Nam Khon, ต้มยำน้ำข้น) (nicht zu verwechseln mit Tom Kha Gai, die nur aus Kokosnussmilch zubereitet wird).
