Barry Eichengreen

Barry Eichengreen (Barry Julian Eichengreen; * 1952) ist ein US-amerikanischer Wirtschaftswissenschaftler und Professor für Ökonomie und politische Wissenschaften an der University of California, Berkeley. Sein Hauptforschungsfeld sind die internationale Makroökonomie und die Geschichte des Finanzsystems.

Leben

Der Sohn von Lucille Eichengreen errang seinen Master in Geschichtswissenschaften 1978 und einen Ph. D. in Ökonomie 1979 jeweils an der Yale University. Eichengreen ist seit 1984 Mitglied des Centre for Economic Policy Research und ist Mitglied des National Bureau of Economic Research seit 1986. Der Wirtschaftswissenschaftler war zudem während der Asienkrise für den Internationalen Währungsfonds tätig. Dort arbeitete er an der Analyse praktischer und theoretischer Herausforderungen der Liberalisierung der internationalen Kapitalmärkte.^[1] Seit 2001 gehört der Ökonom zum internationalen Beirat (International Advisory Board) des Instituts für Weltwirtschaft in Kiel. Am Projekt des Copenhagen Consensus 2004 nahm Eichengreen teil und beleuchtete in diesem Rahmen finanzielle Instabilitäten, um Lösungsmöglichkeiten aufzeigen zu können.
