Die Rußeule oder Rußschleiereule (Tyto tenebricosa) ist eine Art aus der Gattung der Schleiereulen (Tyto). Sie lebt in drei Unterarten in Australien und auf Neu-Guinea.

Die Nominatform ist die Südaustralische Rußschleiereule (T. t. tenebricosa), deren Verbreitungsgebiet sich über Südostaustralien erstreckt, genauer über New South Wales, Victoria, Südost-Queensland, vor allem in Küstennähe. Sie ist in ihrem Verbreitungsgebiet sehr selten.

Die Nordaustralische Rußschleiereule (T. t. multipunctata) ist in Nord- und Nordostqueensland verbreitet. Ihr Status als eigene Unterart wird von einigen Forschern nicht anerkannt.

Die Neuguinea-Rußschleiereule (T. t. arfaki) lebt auf West-Neuguinea und Papua-Neuguinea sowie auf der vorgelagerten Insel Japen. Die Oberseite ist dunkelbraun mit weißen Tüpfeln, die Flügellänge beträgt etwa 240 bis 270 Millimeter.
