Word Clock

Wordclock ist ein Basistakt in der digitalen Audiotechnik, um Bearbeitungs- und Übertragungsvorgänge zwischen verschiedenen Audiokomponenten synchron zu halten. Der Wordclock hat genau die Periodendauer welcher von einem Abtastwert (Samplerate) eingenommen wird, unabhängig vom verwendeten Dynamikumfang.

Mit Hilfe des Wordclock empfangen, senden und bearbeiten alle digitalen Geräte in der Kette die Datenströme synchron. Asynchronität bewirkt eine drastische Reduktion der Audioqualität und deutlich hörbare (unerwünschte) Effekte wie Pop- und Klick-Geräusche.

Standardisierte Clock- bzw. Samplingfrequenzen (vgl. Abtastrate): 44,1, 48, 88,2, 96, 192 (kHz). Die meisten Digitalformate übertragen Wordclock (z. B. S/PDIF, AES/EBU, ADAT,MADI) standardmäßig mit. (Im Gegensatz zu TDIF.)
