Der Cirio [ˈθi.ɾio], auch Boojum [ˈbuː.dʒʌm] und Cototaj [ˈkototax], (Fouquieria columnaris, Syn.: Idria columnaris) ist ein bizarrer Baum aus der Familie der Fouquieriaceae, welcher häufig irrtümlich als Kaktus bezeichnet wird. Der Cirio ist mit Ausnahme einer kleinen Population in der Sierra Bacha im Bundesstaat Sonora nur auf der Halbinsel Niederkalifornien in der Baja-California-Wüste zu finden und ist somit in Nordwest-Mexiko endemisch. Diese Pflanzenspezies existiert seit über 200 Mio. Jahren und gilt als biologisches Relikt.

Das eigenartige Verbreitungsmuster am Festland lässt mexikanische Botaniker vermuten, dass er ursprünglich vom Volk der Seri, in deren Sprache der Baum noch heute cototaj heißt, auf dem Festland verbreitet wurde. Im Glauben der Seri führt das Berühren der Pflanze allerdings zu sehr starken Winden; oben angeführte Theorie verliert dadurch merklich an Glaubwürdigkeit.

Der Stamm eines Boojum wird bis zu 25 Zentimeter dick; im rechten Winkel ragen Zweige aus ihm heraus. Der Baum erreicht eine Höhe von bis zu 25 Metern. Mykorrhiza-Pilze, die in den Wurzeln wachsen, vergrößern die wasseraufnehmende Oberfläche und helfen dem Cirio somit, äußerste Trockenheit zu überstehen.

Nach Regenfällen ist beinahe der gesamte Cirio mit kleinen, etwa 1,5 bis 4 Zentimeter langen Blättern bedeckt. Um Verdunstungsverlusten vorzubeugen werden die Blätter später wieder abgeworfen, lediglich am Wipfel bleibt ein "Strauß" von Blättern übrig. Cirios blühen im Sommer und Herbst: die cremig- bis honiggelben Blüten wachsen in kurzen Trauben.

Cirios erreichen ein Alter von bis zu 700 Jahren, ihr jährliches Wachstum ist mit maximal 4 Zentimetern jedoch sehr langsam. Erste Samen bildet der Baum erst im Alter von 50 bis 100 Jahren.

Cirios sind im Südwesten der USA als Gartenpflanzen populär und sind dort in vielen Zoos und Botanischen Gärten anzutreffen. Da dazu in erster Linie junge Boojums aus ihrem natürlichen Habitat ausgegraben werden, ist die Pflanze durch ihre steigende Popularität gefährdet.
