Im hinduistischen Kontext ist Abhayamudra, das heißt die Geste der Zuversicht und Sicherheit, eine Handhaltung, welche Furcht abwehrt und dem Anbetenden göttlichen Schutz und Glückseligkeit zuteil werden lässt. In dieser Pose wird die rechte Hand aufrecht gehalten und die Handfläche zeigt nach außen. Dies ist eines der frühesten Mudras, die man auf einer Anzahl hinduistischen, buddhistischen und Jainistischen Bildern vorgefunden hat.
