Human-Animal Studies

Human-Animal-Studies (auch “Animal Studies” oder “Anthrozoology”) sind ein relativ junges interdisziplinäres Forschungsfeld, das dem englischsprachigen wissenschaftlichen Diskurs entstammt.

Als eigenständige Strömung im wissenschaftlichen Diskurs kann man die Human Animal Studies etwa seit den 1990er Jahren ausmachen.[1] Im Fokus der Human-Animal Studies (HAS) stehen die komplexen und multidimensionalen Beziehungen zwischen nichtmenschlichen und menschlichen Tieren. Veröffentlichungen und Lehrveranstaltungen stammen aus unterschiedlichen Forschungsdisziplinen wie der Soziologie, dem Bereich der Psychologie, der Geschichtswissenschaft, der Erziehungswissenschaft, der Philosophie, der Anthropologie, der Gender Studies oder der Kulturwissenschaft.

Forschungsbereiche

Forschungsthemen der Human-Animal-Studies sind unter anderem:

  • Die Repräsentation von Tieren in Kunst, Medien und Literatur
  • Die Frage nach der kulturell-symbolischen Bedeutung von Tieren
  • Die Rolle von Tieren und Tierbildern in Denksystemen und der Ideengeschichte westlicher Gesellschaften
  • Interaktionen zwischen Menschen und Tieren
  • Untersuchungen der tierbezogenen Praktiken/der Behandlung von Tieren in verschiedenen gesellschaftlichen Feldern wie Wissenschaft, Ökonomie, Landwirtschaft etc.
  • Die Auseinandersetzung mit der Frage nach Tierrechten/Tierbefreiung und der dazugehörigen sozialen Bewegung
  • Historische Veränderungen der Umgangs- und Einstellungsweisen gegenüber Tieren
  • Eine kritische Analyse des Mensch-Tier-Verhältnisses als Gewalt- und Ausbeutungsverhältnis [2]
