Bart Starr Award

Der Bart Starr Award oder "Athletes in Action Award" wird jährlich an einen American-Football-Spieler der NFL vergeben. Der Preis erinnert an Bart Starr, einem ehemaligen Spieler der Green Bay Packers und Mitglied in der Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Wahlrecht

Gewählt wird der Spieler, der im vorausgegangenen Spieljahr durch seinen außergewöhnlichen Charakter aufgefallen ist. Er muss sich als Führungsspieler herausgestellt haben, aber auch als Familienvater ein Vorbild sein. Hinzu kommt, dass sich der Spieler innerhalb seines sozialen Umfelds und seiner Gemeinde besonders aktiv hervorgetan haben muss.

Wahlvorschläge können alle Pressesprecher der einzelnen NFL Teams, ehemalige Gewinner, die christliche Organisation Athletes in Action[1] und Bart Starr selbst machen. Die Wahl findet zur gleichen Zeit, wie die Wahl zum Pro Bowl statt. Der Gewinner wird bei einer Zusammenkunft anlässlich des Super Bowls geehrt.

+ Eugene Robinson gewann 1999 den Preis. Er musste allerdings den Preis zurückgeben, da er am Tag der Preisverleihung eine verdeckt eingesetzte Polizeibeamtin als Prostituierte angesprochen hatte[2].
