Awarua Plain

Die Awarua Plain ist ein großes Feuchtgebiet östlich von Bluff mit einer Fläche von etwa 600 km² und eine der Southland Plains. Sie erstreckt sich über 35 km an der Küste der Foveaux Strait im äußersten Süden der Südinsel Neuseelands.

Zu diesem Küstenabschnitt gehören die Halbinsel Tiwai Point, Awarua Bay, die Waituna Lagoon und Toetoes Bay. Die Ebene entstand hauptsächlich aus Schwemmland des Mataura River. Zusammen mit dem Oreti River ist er ein Rest der eiszeitlichen Flüsse, die Ebenen der Südinsel bildeten. Mehrere weitere kleine Flüsse münden an diesem Küstenabschnitt in die Foveaux Strait, vor allem in die Awarua Bay und Waituna Lagoon.
