Earl of Minto, in the County of Roxburgh, ist ein britischer erblicher Adelstitel in der Peerage of the United Kingdom, der von der Familie Elliot-Murray-Kynynmound getragen wird.

Stammsitz der Familie ist Minto House bei Hawick, Roxburghshire, Schottland.

Verleihung

Der Titel wurde im Jahre 1813 für Gilbert Elliot-Murray-Kynynmound, 1. Baron Minto, geschaffen. Dieser war ein bekannter Politiker, Diplomat und Kolonialbeamter. Von 1807 bis 1813 war er Generalgouverneur und Vizekönig von Indien gewesen.

Nachgeordneter Titel

Der erste Earl war bereits 1797 zum Baron Minto, of Minto in the County of Roxburgh, erhoben worden. Dieser Titel gehört zur Peerage of Great Britain.

Gleichzeitig mit der Earlswürde wurde die Würde eines Viscount Melgund, of Melgund in the County of Forfar, verliehen. Dieser Titel, der zur Peerage of the United Kingdom gehört, wird als Höflichkeitstitel vom jeweiligen Titelerben geführt.

Beide Titel werden als nachgeordnete Würden vom jeweiligen Earl geführt.

Weiterer Titel

Der Urgroßvater des ersten Earls war ein bekannter schottischer Richter seiner Zeit. Er wurde 1700 zum Baronet, of Minto in the County of Roxburgh, erhoben. Dieser Titel gehört zur Baronetage of Nova Scotia und wird noch heute vom jeweiligen Earl neben seinen anderen Titeln geführt.
