Information Handling Services (IHS Inc.) ist ein weltweit aktiver Fachinformationsverlag mit Hauptsitz auf gemeindefreiem Gebiet bei Centennial Airport bei Denver in den USA.[1].
IHS stellt Informationen zu den Themen Energie, Produktlebenszyklen, Wirtschaft, Umwelt und Sicherheit zusammen. Zu den zugehörigen Marken gehören Jane's Information Group, Cambridge Energy Research Associates (CERA) und die Wirtschaftsinformationsdienste John S. Herold, Inc. und Global Insight.
2007 machte IHS etwa 688 Millionen $ Umsatz. Für 2009 nannte das Unternehmen einen Umsatz von 967 Millionen $.[2]
Entstehung und Portfolio
IHS Anfänge rühren aus der Rogers Publishing Company, die 1959 begann, Produktkataloge auf Mikrofilm aufzuzeichnen, ohne sie klassisch gedruckt zu veröffentlichen. 1961 wurde Rogers von Cahners Publishing gekauft und in IHS umbenannt.
IHS entwickelte Softwareanwendungen, die Produktdaten mit Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) und Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) Software verknüpft. Zudem ist IHS zuständig für bedeutende Standards wie ASTM International (ASTM), der britischen Engineering Sciences Data Unit (ESDU) und das Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) und veröffentlicht Richtlinien der Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive (RoHS) und Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE).
