Charles Arad Joy (* 8. Oktober 1823 in Ludlowville, Tompkins County, NY; † 29. Mai 1891) war ein US-amerikanischer Geologe. [1]

Leben

Seine Eltern waren der Farmer Arad Joy (* 1790) und Catherine, geb. Fisher.[2]

Er studierte zunächst an der Harvard Law School. 1847 graduierte er zum Master am Union College in Schenectady, New York. Darauf ging er nach Paris und promovierte 1853 zum Dr. phil. in Göttingen, wo er auch im Folgejahr Professor für Chemie wurde.

1857 wurde er Professor für Chemie am Columbian College in New York. 1876 zog er sich nach Stockbridge (Massachusetts) zurück. Er leistete Beiträge zur Mineralogie und Meteorologie.
