Conformal Fuel Tanks (CFT) sind Zusatztanks für Flugzeuge, die in ihrer Formgebung direkt an die Kontur des Flugzeugs angepasst sind.[1] Sie dienen der Steigerung der Reichweite und Flugdauer eines Flugzeugs[2] und kommen ausschließlich bei militärischen Luftfahrzeugen zum Einsatz. Conformal Fuel Tanks haben im Gegensatz zu Abwurftanks den Vorteil einer günstigeren Aerodynamik.[1] Außerdem erhöhen sie den Radarquerschnitt deutlich weniger als die Alternativen an den Außenlaststationen. Darüber hinaus stehen die Außenlaststationen weiterhin für weitere Nutzlasten wie Waffen oder Elektronikbehälter zur Verfügung.[2] Von Nachteil ist, dass Conformal Fuel Tanks nicht im Flug abgeworfen werden können. Somit besteht der zusätzliche Luftwiderstand und die zusätzliche Masse während des gesamten Fluges und wirkt sich damit negativ auf einige der Flugleistungen (z. B. Agilität, spezifischer Schub) aus.[3] Am Boden hingegen können CFTs abgenommen werden.[1]
