Finance Watch AISBL (Association international sans but lucratif) ist eine Nicht-Regierungsorganisation (NGO), die sich mit den Finanzmärkten und deren Regulierung auseinander setzt.

Grundsätze

Nach den Grundsätzen von Finance Watch hat das Finanzgewerbe gegenüber der Realwirtschaft eine zwar wichtige, aber dienende Funktion, nämlich Kapital und Finanzdienstleistungen für produktive Zwecke bereitzustellen. Zwar ist es auch im Finanzwesen legitim und notwendig Gewinne zu erzielen, allerdings sollen die Gewinne nicht auf Kosten der Gesellschaft gehen. Entsprechend dürfen die Risiken von Krediten, mit denen die Finanzwirtschaft verdient, nicht auf die Gesellschaft übertragen werden. Das Ziel von Finance Watch besteht letztlich darin, dass die Realwirtschaft Kapital und Finanzdienstleistungen auf nachhaltig, gerecht und transparent erhält.[1] Philipponat sagt hierzu: Wir brauchen Banken, die die Wirtschaft mit Geld versorgen. Wir brauchen keine Banken, die auf alles wetten, was sich bewegt.[2]

Gründung

Die Gründung von Finance Watch am 30. Juni 2011[2] geht auf eine Initiative aus dem Sommer 2010 von Europaabgeordneten zurück, die mit der Regulierung von Finanzmärkten und Banken befasst sind.[2] Zu den Erstunterzeichnern einer Erklärung zur Gründung von Finance Watch gehören unter anderem: Burkhard Balz, Pervenche Berès, Udo Bullmann, Leonardo Domenici, Pascal Canfin, Sergio Gaetano Cofferati, Elisa Ferreira, Jean-Paul Gauzès, Sven Giegold, Robert Goebbels, Charles Goerens, Thomas Händel, Eva Joly, Jürgen Klute, Philippe Lamberts.[3] Generalsekretär von Finance Watch ist Thierry Philipponnat. Philipponnat hat zuvor für Großbanken, unter anderem UBS gearbeitet, bevor er zu Amnesty International ging.[2]

Budget im Vergleich zu dem der Banken

Finance Watch verfügt über ein Budget von 2 Millionen Euro jährlich. Das Budget der Banken und Versicherungen, für ihre in Brüssel 700 Lobbyisten, beträgt nach Angaben von Finance watch 400 Millionen Euro.[2]
