Henry de Bohun, 1. Earl of Hereford (* 1176; † 1. Juni 1220) war ein anglo-normannischer Adliger sowie erblicher Lord High Constable von England. Er war ein Sohn des Humphrey III. de Bohun († 1181), Lord High Constable, und der Margaret of Huntington. Mütterlicherseits war er ein Urenkel von König David I. von Schottland und ein Halbbruder der Herzogin Konstanze von der Bretagne.

Er war verheiratet mit Matilda (Maud) de Mandeville († 1236), einer Tochter von Geoffrey FitzPeter, 1. Earl of Essex. Ihre Mitgift war das Gut Wheatenhurst in Gloucestershire. Ihre Kinder waren:

  • Humphrey de Bohun († 1275), 2. Earl of Hereford und Lord High Constable
  • sowie Henry und Ralph

Von seinem Vater erbte Bohun das Gut Trowbridge in Wiltshire und das Amt des königlichen Constable. Am 28. April 1200 wurde er von König Johann Ohneland zum Earl of Hereford ernannt. Seine Großmutter mütterlicherseits stammte von Miles de Gloucester, 1. Earl of Hereford ab.

Trotz dieser Honorierung schloss er sich 1215 der Rebellion der Barone an, die den König zur Unterzeichnung der Magna Charta nötigte. Dazu wurde er zu einen der fünfundzwanzig Baronen ernannt, welche die Einhaltung der Charta überwachen sollten. Die anschließende Revisionsbestrebung des Königs führte zum Ausbruch des „First Baron's War“, mit seinen Gesinnungsgenossen wurde Bohun am 16. Dezember 1215 vom Papst exkommuniziert, seine Besitzungen wurden konfisziert. Folglich unterstützte er den Thronanspruch des französischen Prinzen Ludwig, dem er auch nach dem Tod König Johanns treu blieb. Bei der Niederlage in der Schlacht von Lincoln (20. Mai 1217) geriet er allerdings in die Gefangenschaft der königstreuen Partei und Prinz Ludwig gab seine Ansprüche auf. In einer allgemeinen Versöhnung unterwarf sich Bohun dem neuen König Heinrich III. und erhielt seine Besitzungen zurückerstattet.

Als Bußleistung für seine Exkommunizierung beteiligte sich Bohun ab 1219 am Kreuzzug von Damiette (fünfter Kreuzzug) und starb dabei 1220 in Ägypten. Sein Leichnam wurde in die Llanthony Secunda Priory in Gloucester überführt.
