Indexed Database API ist eine vom World Wide Web Consortium entworfene Programmierschnittstelle für eine Datenbank, deren Datensätze einfache Werte und hierarchische Objekte beinhaltet. Jeder Datensatz besteht aus einem Schlüssel und einem dazugehörigen Wert. Darüber hinaus pflegt die Datenbank Indizes über alle von ihr gespeicherten Datensätze. Ein Anwendungsentwickler benutzt eine API direkt zum Adressieren des Datensatzes entweder den Schlüssel oder den Index. Eine Abfrage-Sprache kann als Zugriffsschicht über diese API gelegt werden. Eine indizierte Datenbank kann unter Verwendung einer B-Baum-Datenstruktur implementiert werden.
