Celtel war eine Tochter der kuwaitischen Handy-Konzerns Zain und betrieb ein GSM-Netz in mehreren Staaten Afrikas und war bis 2008 unter diesen Namen tätig. Als besonderes Merkmal bot Celtel sein Netz über Ländergrenzen hinweg an, ohne das sogenannte Roaming. Dies bezog sich auf die Länder Gabun, Kenia, die Republik Kongo, die Demokratische Republik Kongo, Uganda und Tansania. Im Jahre 2008 wechselte Celtel den Markennamen in Zain. 2010 wurde das Unternehmen an Bharti Airtel verkauft und wechselte seinen Namen zu airtel.
