Loyalist steht für

in der Politik:

eine Person, die einer amtierenden Regierung, politischen Partei oder anderen Autorität loyal die Treue hält, insbesondere in Zeiten von Krisen oder kriegerischer Auseinandersetzungen.

Im Besonderen werden darunter verstanden:

  • Die Anhänger Karl I. (England) und seines Sohnes Karl II. (England) im Englischen Bürgerkrieg
  • Loyalisten, nordamerikanische Kolonisten aus dem Königreich Großbritannien, die während des Amerikanischen Unabhängigkeitskrieges loyale Untertanen der britischen Krone blieben.
  • Southern Loyalists, Union Loyalists, Lincoln Loyalists oder Southern Unionists. Bewohner der Südstaaten der USA, die für die Union eintraten.
  • die Anhänger des Unionismus (Irland)

in der Geographie:

  • Loyalist (Ontario), eine Gemeinde in Kanada
