Medaurus

Medaurus oder gr. Medauros war ein illyrischer Kriegsgott. Er wurde als Reiter mit einer Lanze dargestellt.[1]

Medaurus war die Schutzgottheit der dalmatinischen Stadt Risinium im heutigen Montenegro.[2]

In einer Tempelgrotte beim Kap Santa Maria di Leuca (italienische Provinz Lecce) erwähnt eine Inschrift die nach illyrischen Gottheiten benannten liburnischen Schiffe Medaurus und Rhedon (AE 1979, 189).[3] [4]

Der Kult von Medaurus ist auch in der nordafrikanischen Stadt Lambaesis durch eine Inschrift im Asklepiostempel bezeugt (CIL VIII 2581) [5].
