Chevron oder Cheveron (französisch) war die im französischen Heer gebräuchliche Dienstauszeichnung in Form auf den Ärmeln aufgenähter winkelförmiger Tressen. Die Zahl dieser Chevrons bezeichnete Rang und Dienstalter der Soldaten. Veteranen und wegen hohen Dienstalters zu Unteroffizieren beförderten Soldaten hießen deshalb Chevronnés.

Im preußischen Heer wurden die Chevrons 1889 eingeführt: in der Kavallerie wurden Chevrons auf dem linken Oberärmel für den besten Fechter zu Pferde verliehen.
