Das Red Sea Environmental Centre (RSEC) ist eine Wissenschafts- und Umweltinstitution am Roten Meer, welches die Meereskunde, die Meeresbiologie und den Naturschutz fördert.
Geschichte
Das RSEC wurde 2002 unter dem Namen Sinai Environmental Center ins Leben gerufen und ist seit Juli 2005 ein in Österreich registrierter Verein. 2007 wurde das RSEC in die neu gegründete Meeresschutzorganisation mare-mundi.eu eingegliedert. In Ägypten arbeitet das RSEC als eigenständiger Teil der bedeutendsten ägyptischen Umweltorganisation HEPCA.[1]
Die erste Station operiert seit 2006 Jahren in Dahab, an der südlichen Sinaiküste. Die zweite Station arbeitet seit dem Frühjahr 2008 in El-Quseir auf dem Ägyptischen Festland.[2]
Arbeit
Die Tätigkeit des Vereins erstreckt sich über Österreich hinaus, auf den ganzen deutschsprachigen Raum und Ägypten. Weltweit finden auch Forschungsreisen, Expeditionen, Kurse, Seminare, Umweltschutzprojekte, die Durchführung von Diplomarbeiten und Dissertationen u.a. statt.
