Unboxing

Unboxing (engl. für Auspacken) ist ein Schlagwort, das ein Online-Video bezeichnen kann, das von einer Privatperson zu Hause aufgezeichnet und kommentiert wird und auf Internet-Videoportalen - wie zum Beispiel YouTube - veröffentlicht wird. Diese Unboxing-Videos drehen sich um ein Produkt (hauptsächlich Elektronikgeräte, Spielzeug, Videospiele), welches der Verpackung entnommen wird und dessen Nützlichkeit und Qualität kritisch unter die Lupe genommen werden. Am Schluss des Videos wird dann das Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis bewertet und eine Meinung dazu abgegeben, ob sich die Anschaffung gelohnt hat.

Abzugrenzen sind Unboxing-Videos von sogenannten Haul-Videos, da es sich hier um die Beschreibung und Anwendung von Kosmetikartikel und Pflegeprodukten dreht, die bei Frauen sehr beliebt sind.

Geschichte

Das älteste Online-Video, das im Titel Unboxing trägt und auch eine Produktbeschreibung beinhaltet, wurde am 12. Juni 2006 bei YouTube hochgeladen.[1] Es gibt aber auch ältere Videos, die ähnlich sind, aber Opening (Öffnen) oder Unpacking (Auspacken, Entpacken) genannt wurden. Google Trends bestätigt, dass der Netzkultur-Begriff Unboxing im letzten Quartal 2006 aufkam.[2]
