Unit 8200 (Einheit Acht Zweihundert) (יחידה 8200 oder shmone matayim in hebräisch) ist eine israelische Geheimdienst-Einheit, welche für die Gewinnung von Signals Intelligence Informationen und für Codeentschlüsselung verantwortlich ist. In militärischen Veröffentlichungen ist sie auch als zentrale Informationsgewinnungseinheit des israelischen Geheimdiensts bekannt.

Geschichte

Unit 8200 wurde 1952 unter Verwendung von überschüssiger amerikanischer Militiärausrüstung gegründet. Ursprünglich wurde sie "2nd Intelligence Service Unit" (zu deutsch: 2. Geheimdiensteinheit) und dann "515th Intelligence Service Unit" (zu deutsch: 515. Geheimdiensteinheit). genannt. Im Jahr 1954 wurde die Einheit von Jaffa zu ihrem aktuellen Standort an der Glilot Kreuzung verlegt.[1]

Einsätze

Unit 8200 war der mutmaßliche Ersteller des Stuxnet Computerwurms, welcher im Jahr 2010 Steuerungssysteme von Industrieanlagen, einschließlich Iranischer Anlagen zur Uran-Anreicherung sabotierte.[2]

Ehemalige Mitarbeiter der Unit 8200 gründeten führende israelische High-Tech Firmen, darunter z.B. Check Point, ICQ, Nice, AudioCodes und Gilat. [3]
