Vashti Murphy McKenzie (* 28. Mai 1947) ist eine US-amerikanische, methodistische Bischöfin der African Methodist Episcopal Church.

Leben

Nach ihrer Schulzeit studierte McKenzie Journalismus und erhielt den Bachelor an der University of Maryland. Später legte sie die Prüfungen für den Master in Theologie an der Howard University ab und promovierte in Ohio am United Theological Seminary. 1984 wurde McKenzie zur Diakonin geweiht und zur Pastorin einer Kirchengemeinde in Chesapeake City, Maryland, ernannt. Danach war sie Pastorin in Baltimore an der Payne Memorial AME Church. Im Jahre 2000 wurde McKenzie zur Bischöfin gewählt und war damit zugleich die erste Frau als Bischöfin in der AME Church. Als Autorin verfasste McKenzie mehrere Bücher mit theologischen Inhalten, insbesondere zur Frauenordination. McKenzie ist mit Stan McKenzie verheiratet.
