Common System Interface

QuickPath Interconnect (kurz: QPI) ist eine von Intel entwickelte Bus-Technologie zur Kommunikation zwischen CPU und Chipsatz. QPI wurde als Common System Interface (CSI) entwickelt und löst ab dem Core i7 und der damit verbundenen Einführung der Nehalem Architektur den Front Side Bus bei Intel-basierten Systemen ab.

Technisches

QPI wurde in Konkurrenz zu AMDs HyperTransport-Technologie entwickelt und integriert wie diese einen Speicherkontroller in die CPU. Ein Common System Interface-Link kann aus bis zu 20 parallelen Lanes (seriellen unidirektionalen Datenverbindungen) in jede Richtung bestehen, die sich auch in zwei Links zu je zehn, oder vier Links zu je fünf Lanes nutzen lassen. Jede Lane erreicht eine Datentransferrate von bis zu 6,4 GBit/s bzw. GT/s (Gigatransfers).[1] Ein voller 20er Link überträgt demnach 12,8 GByte/s Daten pro Richtung (Vollduplex). Das bedeutet eine Verdoppelung gegenüber FSB 1066.[2] Die Prozessoren können über eine unterschiedliche Anzahl von Lanes verfügen.
