Constitutional Convention

Die Philadelphia Convention (auch: Constitutional Convention) (25. Mai bis 17. September 1787) war eine Delegiertenversammlung in den Vereinigten Staaten, die zusammengerufen wurde, um die Konföderationsartikel (Articles of Confederation von 1781) zu verbessern. Allerdings einigte man sich rasch darauf, eine komplett neue Verfassung zu schreiben.

Einig waren sich die 55 Delegierten bei der Gewaltenteilung in Legislative, Exekutive und Judikative. Strittig hingegen war die Methode zur Wahl des Präsidenten, bis man sich auf die Einführung des Electoral College einigte. Am 17. September wurde die Verfassung von 39 der 42 Anwesenden unterzeichnet und dem Kongress zur Ratifizierung überreicht.

Damit ging die Verfassung der Vereinigten Staaten aus der Philadelphia Convention hervor.
