Criswell

Criswell (bürgerlich Charles Jerome Criswell Konig, * 18. August 1907 in Princeton; † 4. Oktober 1982 in Burbank) war ein US-amerikanischer Unterhaltungskünstler.

Criswell trat als Hellseher im US-Fernsehen auf, veröffentlichte ein Buch mit seinen Prophezeiungen und wirkte in zwei Filmen von Edward D. Wood jr. mit.

Seine bekannteste – zutreffende – Voraussage machte er am 10. März 1963 im "Jack Paar TV special", als er verkündete, Präsident John F. Kennedy würde sich 1964 nicht zur Wiederwahl stellen, da ihm im November 1963 "etwas zustoße". Andere Voraussagen, wie das Ende der Welt am 18. August 1999 oder sein eigener Flug zum Mond (zusammen mit US-Präsidentin Mae West) erfüllten sich nicht.

Criswell war eine schillernde Persönlichkeit, umgab sich gerne mit Gleichgesinnten und pflegte ein skurriles Image. Zu seinen Gewohnheiten zählte es beispielsweise, gelegentlich in Särgen zu schlafen und von deren Bequemlichkeit zu schwärmen.

Seine letzte Ruhestätte fand Criswell im Pierce Brothers Valhalla Memorial Park, North Hollywood – in einer Urne.
