Dakota City ist eine Stadt und der County Seat des Dakota County im US-Bundesstaat Nebraska.

Geschichte

Erstmals entdeckt wurde das Gebiet von Dakota City 1804 von Meriwether Lewis und William Clark. Gegründet wurde Dakota City aber erst im Jahr 1856, nachdem ein Jahr zuvor das Dakota County geschaffen worden war. Ihren Namen erhielt die Stadt zu Ehren der Dacotah Indianer. Am 5. April 1858 wurde die Stadt offiziell eingetragen.

Geographie

Dakota City liegt im Nordosten Nebraskas am Missouri River, der die Grenze zu Iowa darstellt. Es hat Anbindung an die U.S. Highways 75 und 77, sowie der Nebraska State Route 35.

Demographie

Laut United States Census 2000 hat Dakota City 1821 Einwohner, davon 931 Männer und 890 Frauen[1].
