Der ZIP-Code [ˈzɪp ˌkoʊd] (Abkürzung für Zone Improvement Plan) ist der Postleitzahlen-Code des Postdienstleisters der Vereinigten Staaten, United States Postal Service. Es handelt sich dabei um einen ursprünglich (1. Juli 1963) 5-stelligen Code, der später (1983) um 4 Stellen erweitert wurde. Die Postleitzahl wird hinter dem Ortsnamen geschrieben. Jede der etwa 30.000 Poststellen hat dabei eine eigene Nummer. Die kleinste Nummer liegt an der Ostküste - 01001 in Agawam, Massachusetts - und die Größte liegt im Westen − 99950 für Ketchikan, Alaska. Jede Adresse hat zusätzlich noch vier Nummern, um den Sortiervorgang zu erleichtern. In jeder Adresse muss neben dem ZIP-Code auch der Name der Stadt und die Abkürzung des Staates enthalten sein.

Aufgrund der Tatsache, dass die ZIP-Code-Erweiterung bei den Postkunden auf Widerstand gestoßen ist, wird der 4-stellige Zusatz heutzutage nicht mehr verlangt.
