Bei dem Begriff Elevon handelt es sich um ein Kunstwort aus den englischen Begriffen elevator (deutsch Höhenruder) und aileron (deutsch Querruder). Elevons bezeichnen eine Kombination von Höhen- und Querrudern bei Luftfahrzeugen. Anstatt jeweils separate Höhen- und Querruder an teilweise unterschiedlichen Tragflächen vorzusehen, werden Elevons an den Haupttragflächen angebracht und steuern sowohl die Längs- als auch die Querneigung des Flugzeugs.[1]

Aufgrund ihrer Bauform werden Elevons in erster Linie bei Luftfahrzeugen mit Deltaflügeln eingesetzt, dies trifft insbesondere auf Kampfflugzeuge zu (Bsp.: Eurofighter), aber auch das zivile Überschallflugzeug Concorde und das amerikanische Space Shuttle sind mit Elevons ausgestattet.
