European Society of Radiology

Die European Society of Radiology (ESR) ist ein gemeinnütziger Verein, der die Interessen der Radiologie und der europäischen Radiologen gegenüber Verwaltung und Politik vertritt.

Geschichte

Er wurde 2005 durch einen Zusammenschluss des European Congress of Radiology (ECR) und der European Association of Radiology (EAR) gegründet. Durch die Fusion nützt die ESR sowohl die Kongress-Infrastruktur des ECR als auch die politischen und organisatorischen Beziehungen der EAR. Das Wirken der Gesellschaft ist laut eigenem Statut dem Patientennutzen und dem Nutzen für das gesamteuropäische Gesundheitssystem verpflichtet. Dieser soll durch die finanzielle und professionelle Unterstützung der ESR in Wissenschaft, Lehre und Forschung gesteigert werden.

Aktivitäten

Das Kernstück der ESR ist der jährlich in Wien stattfindende Kongress ECR (European Congress of Radiology), welcher der größte radiologische Kongress Europas ist. 2011 besuchten 20.120 Teilnehmer aus ca. 100 Ländern aus aller Welt den Kongress. 1350 Vorträge und fast 3000 elektronische Posterpräsentationen wurden am Kongress vorgestellt.

Weitere Fortbildungsmöglichkeiten bietet die ESR in verschiedensten Veranstaltungen, Kursen und Publikationen an:

  • Die European School of Radiology veranstaltet spezialisierte Übungsseminare zu radiologischen Methoden, das European Institute for Biomedical Imaging Research ist in der Förderung und Koordination von bildgebenden Forschungsprojekten in Europa tätig.
  • Das medizinische Journal European Radiology publiziert monatlich aktuelle und relevante Studien und Manuskripte.
  • Elektronische E-Learning-Plattformen wie EURORAD (eine Sammlung von radiologischen Lehrbeispielen) und EPOSTM (eine Sammlung von Poster-Präsentationen) werden von der Gesellschaft für Fortbildungs- und Wissensaustauschzwecken betrieben.
  • Das Programm Invest in the Youth ermöglicht jungen Ärzten die kostenlose Teilnahme am ECR, auch die Hotelkosten werden von der ESR übernommen.

Die ESR versucht in der Öffentlichkeit über die Aktivitäten von Radiologen zu informieren. Seit 2007 gibt es eine Poster-Kampagne und eine Patienten-Plattform im Internet, die Aufklärung und Information zu radiologischen Untersuchungen für Patienten bieten.
