Exploitation

Exploitation ist das französische Wort für „Ausbeutung“, „Verwertung“ und „Nutzbarmachung“. Exploitationfilm wird im Deutschen als Fremdwort für die Bezeichnung des gleichnamigen Filmgenres verwendet.

Begriffsgeschichte

Ein zum deutschen Fremdwort gehöriges Verb, das auch als Substantiv gebraucht wurde, lautet „exploitieren“, das sich etymologisch vor allem vom französischen „exploiter“ ableitet. Der „Exploiteur“ ist eine Umschreibung für einen Ausbeuter, spielt aber im heutigen deutschen Sprachgebrauch keine Rolle mehr.

Der Begriff „Exploiteur“ findet sich unter anderem bei sozialistischen Theoretikern des 19. Jahrhunderts als Synonym für „Kapitalist“. Im Manifest der kommunistischen Partei von Karl Marx und Friedrich Engels ist von Exploitation des Weltmarktes die Rede und der „Exploitation des einen Individuums durch das andere“, die es aufzuheben gelte.

Im Deutschen wird „Exploitation“ heute auch manchmal als Fachwort der Medientheorie verwendet, um die Zweitverwertung eines erfolgreichen Themas in Film, Buch, Comic etc. zu bezeichnen. Auch beschreibt das Wort die mediale „Ausbeutung“ von heiklen Themen wie Sex oder Gewalt aus kommerziellen Gründen.
