Fongafale ist die größte und mit 3136 Einwohnern (Volkszählung 2002) bevölkerungsreichste Insel des Atolls Funafuti sowie des Staates Tuvalu.

Der einzige (internationale) Flughafen des Landes liegt in Fongafale. Es gibt sieben kleine Seen, von denen der Pond der größte ist. Fongafale weist vier Dörfer auf, die ineinander übergehen (Bevölkerung in Klammern):

  • Alapi (1.024)
  • Fakaifou (1.007)
  • Senala (589)
  • Vaiaku (516)

Vaiaku ist das wichtigste Dorf, in dem sich auch alle Regierungsgebäude befinden.
