Ein Fort [foːr] (kurz v. fortification, frz.; v. lat. fortis = stark) ist ein Bestandteil einer Festung. Es gehört entweder mit mehreren anderen Forts zur Gesamtanlage einer Festung oder nimmt als kleinere Anlage eine eigenständige Position an strategisch wichtigen Punkten (Häfen oder Verkehrswegen) ein.

Im Fort befanden sich die Artillerie sowie die Truppenunterbringungsräume.

Im 19. Jahrhundert wurde es zum Bestandteil der Festungsringe um große Städte, z. B. Köln, Straßburg, Ingolstadt u.v.m. Diese Ringe konnten Durchmesser von bis zu 15 km haben. Einer der berühmtesten ist das sternförmige Fort der Freiheitsstatue.

In den Vereinigten Staaten bezeichnete Fort früher einen durch Holzpalisaden gesicherten Militärstützpunkt.
