Die Grüne Partei Kanadas (engl. Green Party of Canada, frz. Parti vert du Canada) ist eine kanadische politische Partei. Parteivorsitzende ist seit August 2006 Elizabeth May. Die Gründung der Partei erfolgte im Jahr 1983.

Politische Positionen

Kerngedanke grüner Politik ist nachhaltige Entwicklung. In der politischen Auseinandersetzung bezieht die Partei den Begriff Nachhaltigkeit häufig auf Umweltschutz und meint damit die Schonung natürlicher Ressourcen. Hieraus ergibt sich zum Beispiel das Engagement der Partei für erneuerbare Energien.

Am 30. August 2008 wechselte Blair Wilson, ein Abgeordneter der Liberalen Partei, zu den Grünen. Bevor er jedoch als erster grüner Abgeordneter überhaupt eine Session beginnen konnte, fanden die vorgezogenen Unterhauswahlen 2008 statt. Bei diesen erreichten die Grünen 6,8 % der Stimmen; gleichwohl sind sie nach dem Ergebnis der Wahlen aufgrund des derzeit gültigen Mehrheitswahlrechts mit keinem Sitz im kanadischen Unterhaus vertreten, da Wilson in seinem Wahlkreis verlor. Die Partei strebt eine Änderung des Wahlrechtssystems in Kanada an.
