Alta ist ein Ort im Salt Lake County im US-Bundesstaat Utah. Alta ist außerdem ein bekanntes Skigebiet und wird jährlich von bis zu 500.000 Touristen besucht.

Geschichte

Die Stadt Alta wurde 1870 gegründet, nachdem sich in der Region erstmals Siedler niedergelassen hatten, um dort Silber in Silberbergwerken abzubauen. Die großen Silbervorkommen verhalfen dem Ort über viele Jahre hin zu großem Reichtum. 1938 wurde dann der erste Skilift erbaut. Seitdem ist der Tourismus der Hauptwirtschaftsfaktor in Alta.

Demografische Daten

Von den 370 Einwohnern sind 94,86% Weiße, 4,32% Lateinamerikaner, 1,08% Schwarze, 0,81% Ureinwohner, 0,58% Asiaten, 1,35% Andere und 1,35% der Einwohner Altas sind mischrassig.

Die Einwohner leben in 67 Haushalten. 52,2% der Haushalte bestanden aus Ehepaaren, 22,4% der Haushalte haben Kinder.
