Emscherbrunnen, entwickelt 1907 von Karl Imhoff

Der Emscherbrunnen, auch Imhoff-Tank genannt, ist ein Absetzbecken zur mechanischen Abwasserreinigung, bei dem der Schlamm durch sein Eigengewicht in einen unter dem Absetzraum liegenden Faulraum sinkt (Sedimentationsbecken). Das Prinzip des Emscherbrunnens wurde 1907 von Karl Imhoff entwickelt. Es ist eine Spezialform des Dortmundbrunnen.

Oft werden Emscherbrunnen zur Schlammfaulung eingesetzt. Seinen Namen hat der Emscherbrunnen vom Emscherverband, der ihn in den Kläranlagen des Ruhrgebietes erstmals einsetzte.
