Der Kauf-Nix-Tag (englisch: „Buy Nothing Day“) ist ein konsumkritischer Aktionstag am letzten Freitag (Nordamerika) bzw. Samstag (Europa) im November. Er wird mittlerweile in 80 Ländern organisiert.[1]
In Amerika ist dies trotz der Aktion der umsatzstärkste Tag des Jahres, da er unmittelbar auf das Erntedankfest (Thanksgiving) folgt. Durch einen 24-stündigen Konsumverzicht soll gegen „ausbeuterische Produktions- und Handelsstrategien internationaler Konzerne und Finanzgruppen“ protestiert werden. Außerdem soll zum Nachdenken über das eigene Konsumverhalten und die weltweiten Auswirkungen angeregt werden. Ein bewusstes, auf Nachhaltigkeit abzielendes Kaufverhalten jedes Einzelnen soll somit gefördert werden. Gleichzeitig soll gegen umweltschädliche und unmenschliche Herstellungsbedingungen protestiert werden.
In Deutschland wird der „Aktionstag von der Narra e.V.“ und der Konsumnetz-AG des globalisierungskritischen Netzwerks Attac initiiert.[1]
Außerhalb der USA ist dieser linksalternative Protesttag trotz vereinzelter Presseberichte kaum bekannt und findet – von vereinzelten Aktionen von Gruppen wie Attac abgesehen – wenig Beachtung, was unveränderte Umsatzzahlen an diesem Tag belegen.
Ursprünglich wurde der Buy Nothing Day 1992 von der kanadischen Medien- und Werbeagentur Adbusters Media Foundation erfunden, die unter anderem für Greenpeace und die amerikanischen Grünen tätig war, aber auch von Unternehmen wie etwa Esprit unterstützt wird.[2]
Fraglich bleibt, ob die Teilnehmer der Veranstaltung tatsächlichen, nachhaltigen Konsumverzicht üben, oder entsprechende Einkäufe lediglich verschoben werden, vergleichbar Boykottaktionen an Mineralölkonzernen.
