John Bates Clark Medal

Die John Bates Clark Medal ist eine prestigeträchtige Auszeichnung der American Economic Association.

Verliehen wird die John Bates Clark Medal an den „amerikanischen Ökonom unter vierzig Jahren, der einen signifikanten Beitrag zum ökonomischen Denken und Wissen“ geleistet hat. Bis 2009 fanden die Verleihungen alle zwei Jahre statt. Seit 2010 wird die Medaille jährlich vergeben.

Die Auszeichnung, benannt nach dem amerikanischen neoklassischen Ökonomen John Bates Clark (1847–1938), ist neben dem Preis für Wirtschaftswissenschaften der schwedischen Reichsbank im Gedenken an Alfred Nobel eine der prestigeträchtigsten Auszeichnungen im Bereich der Wirtschaftswissenschaften. In etwa die Hälfte der Preisträger der Vergangenheit gewann später auch den häufiger verliehenen Nobelpreis, im Durchschnitt nach einer Wartezeit von 20 Jahren.
